We report the synthesis of a charge-neutral Au₄₄(SR)₂₈ nanocluster (SR = 4-tert-butylbenzenethiolate) and structural prediction based upon the rules learned from X-ray structures of Au₂₈(SR)₂₀ and Au₃₆(SR)₂₄.
