Non-aqueous Mg-O2 batteries are seen as primary cells because magnesium oxide(MgO) formed during discharging cannot be decomposed easily at ambient temperatures. A catalyst for accelerating the decomposition of MgO has been required to realize secondary batteries. The ability of molecular complexes of iodine with organic solvents as the catalyst was studied. It was found that MgO decomposed chemically in some I2-solvent complex solutions at 60℃.
